The car has the key, but it still won’t start? That’s exactly what happened to a Range Rover Sport that came to us recently. The car uses a keyless entry system, but when it came time to start the vehicle, the keyless system wasn’t working as it should, and the car eventually couldn’t be started.
For problems like this, we can’t immediately assume that the remote key is the issue. Modern keyless systems involve several electronic modules that need to communicate with each other. One of them is the RFA (Radio Frequency Actuator) module, which is involved in the vehicle’s key detection system.
After carrying out an inspection and diagnosis, we found that there was an issue related to the RFA module. When there is a problem with the RFA, symptoms can include keyless entry not working, the key not being detected, and the car not starting. That’s why, for cases like this, proper diagnosis is important before replacing the module or remote key.
For this Range Rover Sport, the solution we carried out was RFA module programming / bypass. The module was programmed according to the condition and requirements of the vehicle’s system. Once the process was completed, we checked the keyless and starting functions again to make sure everything was working properly.
In the end, the car was able to start normally again. Cases like this are interesting because sometimes a car that won’t start isn’t necessarily caused by the engine or battery. At times, the problem can come from an electronic module that we may not even realise plays a role in the vehicle’s starting system.
If your Range Rover Sport won’t start, the key isn’t being detected, or you’re having problems with the keyless entry system, don’t immediately replace the key or module. Get the system diagnosed first to understand what’s actually causing the problem. In certain cases, RFA programming or bypass may be one of the possible solutions, depending on the vehicle’s system, module condition, and model.
