Common Issue For Hybrid Cars

December 3, 2025

The growing number of electric vehicles being produced shows a clear and determined push toward green technology. Despite the rise of EVs, hybrid vehicles remain a popular choice among many drivers in Malaysia. However, like any motor vehicle, hybrids come with their own set of issues regardless of how advanced the technology is.
In this particular text, we will discuss the common issue arise in hybrid cars specifically among Toyota & Lexus’s models.

Toyota Prius, Prius C, Lexus CT200H is commonly known as hybrid models produce world widely. The demand on this model surprisingly high. This is due to advantage offered by these hybrid cars which mainly offers much greater fuel efficiency than standard cars. Despite the advantage, we also have to be aware of the common problem for hybrid cars.

Now for the common problems, we will not look into the specific mechanical parts as it has been discussed a lot and it is almost the same found in any other cars. This writing will be focus on the ‘Hybrid’ problem which obviously will occur on the hybrid cars. There are 2 common ‘hybrid’ problems will occur. The first common problem is :

Hybrid Battery

Hybrid cars rely on their batteries to generate power for the engine, reducing the reliance on petrol. This is why hybrid vehicles are generally more fuel-efficient than conventional cars.
However, once the battery reaches the end of its lifespan, it loses its capacity to provide power. Without sufficient energy from the battery, the car’s performance can drop sharply.

When the battery can no longer be used, it needs to be replaced. Otherwise, the hybrid system will fail, potentially causing damage to the car. Clear signs of a failing hybrid battery include the check engine light appearing on the dashboard and a sudden drop in the car’s performance, making it feel like the vehicle has lost power.

ABS Hybrid

In addition to the battery, ABS is also a common issue in hybrid vehicles, particularly in models such as the Toyota Prius, Toyota Prius C, Lexus CT200H, and Lexus NX300H. The ABS system in hybrid cars differs from that of conventional vehicles, with notable variations in module design and mechanism, making it a little bit more complex than conventional cars.

ABS issues are frequently encountered by hybrid owners, highlighting the importance of addressing them promptly as they directly impact vehicle safety. Signs of ABS issues include the check engine light turning on and brakes feeling harder than usual. When both of these indicators appear, it clearly points to a problem in the car’s ABS system.

In conclusion, there are several other issues that commonly occur in hybrid vehicles, but the main focus is on the key problems that are almost certain to arise and directly affect the hybrid system. Other frequent mechanical issues should also be noted, especially by hybrid car owners.

The occurrence, timing, and severity of these problems may vary depending on each driver’s usage and driving habits. However, what remains certain is that every issue should be addressed promptly to prevent more serious damage from developing.
